| The North Newton unconformity near Loch Ranza. This unconformity was recognised by James Hutton as long, ago as 1787. Beds of Old Red Sandstone age dip north-northwest at an angle of about 300, while the underlying shists (foreground) are inclined to the south-southeast at angles between 40° and 50° . Excursion to Arran. 17th to 20th September 1965. | |
